Marina Coruna

Sea Goddess Marina Coruna

Location: A Coruna, Spain

Duration: 15 nights (27th July – 11th August 2019)

Cost: €25 /day for stays longer than 7 days. €45/day for stays less than 7 days.

Electricity: extra, our cost for one week was €14

Key card deposit: €10 per card, refundable

This marina complex offers both long and short term berths as well as a small motor home park, dive centre and shop onsite.  The shop offers a limited range of food, snacks, alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and fishing gear.

The location is safe behind a very large breakwater and protection is great for on-shore winds.  There is a sight tidal surge, but nothing to really worry about.  If the wind blows off-shore, there is a slight chop driven into the marina from across the bay which can be a little bumpy.

Well situated for travellers and yachties, the centre of town with a range of restaurants, cafes, banks, pharmacies and post office are within an easy walkable distance.  A range of transport options are also available including bus (€1.20 per person/per trip), taxi, Uber and Bolt.  Even though this was an unplanned stop for us, we both thoroughly enjoyed our stay in A Coruna and would highly recommend a stopover here.  For more information about A Coruna check out http://seagoddessadventures.com/sailing-to-australia-a-coruna/

Staffing

Staff at this marina were friendly, with great local knowledge and most spoke some English.  If you chose to stay at this marina check in with Kieran who is an absolutely brilliant, super helpful guy – nothing is too much trouble. The ladies in the front office speak excellent English and are also extremely helpful and friendly.

On our approach to the marina we requested docking assistance with no problem at all, the marina staff were happy to give us a hand.  Staff can arrange Yanmar engine servicing which we took advantage of as the first 50 hour service was due.

Amenities

Secure access: Yes between the hours of 9 pm and 8 am, access is via key card.

Secure parking: Underground parking is available but is not ‘secure’ and there is a charge.

Bathrooms: Located in the basement of the main marina office building, two sets of bathrooms are available for women and two sets for men.  Cleanliness is average.

Laundry: Located in the basement of the main marina office building, two dryers and three washing machines are available for use.  Cost of washing machine or dryer per load is €5 which includes laundry detergent (for washing machines).

Fuel Dock: Petrol and diesel available, payment via credit card only.

Gas: We can’t speak to this as the gas bottles we purchased in Les Sables-d’Olonne were still going strong.

Pump out: Yes, see marina staff.

Wifi: Yes, but painfully slow.  Best bet is to head to Naval Nauticale, right next door to Marina Coruna, grab a coffee or two and access the wifi.  Wifi reception is much better here.

Chandlery: none on site, the nearest one is approximately 6km away.

Noise: Overall no problem, though there was a major festival of events happening in the city during the month of August so depending on where the event was located noise did carry across to the marina on some occasions.

Restaurant/Bar: A fully serviced restaurant is located on the first floor of the main marina office building.  Food and drink prices are expensive in our view.  A bar is located on the ground floor of the building offering a limited range of food, coffee, alcoholic and /non alcoholic drinks at more affordable prices.  As a nearby alternative check out Naval Nauticale, right next door to Marina Coruna which has a bar and restaurant on the first floor offering a selected range of meals.  Meal prices here range from €9.00 early in the week to €12.50 later in the week and on weekends.

Overall we rated this marina 9 ½ /10.
