Attack of the blue fluff – worst buy so far!

Sea Goddess towels

Not Recommended

As part of our pre-departure buying spree we purchased 4 bath towels, 4 hand towels, 4 face towels and 4 bath mats from Myer in the post-Christmas sales. Labelled ‘Vue’ the towels in a striking blue were the perfect colour. As they were being shipped we decided not to waste time and resources washing them pre shipment, preferring to wash and dry all bought bedding, towels etc at a laundromat in Les Sables-d’Olonne.

What a mess! After removing the towels from the washing machine copious amounts of blue fluff littered the floor. I quickly transferred them to one of the large dryers, and shook them vigorously once dried. Again blue fluff and tiny pieces of thread flew everywhere. The dryer filter was packed full of the stuff, which I removed and binned. I looked around for a brush or something to sweep it all up from the floor, but couldn’t find anything. What I assume was the caretaker’s storage area was locked, so I gathered all our washing and detergents and quickly left. Thank goodness no one else was in attendance.

Unfortunately it didn’t stop there. Bringing the towels onboard was the worst decision ever, I should have binned them when I had the chance. Three months and at least 10 washes and dries in commercial washers/driers later they are still shedding. (I refuse to wash or dry them in the onboard washer/drier). Tiny bits of blue fluff can be found on the interior floors and surfaces, even in the cockpit area, though it is lessening. Occasionally Peter and the crew come back from marina bathrooms with small dots/pieces of blue fluff on their whiskers (hilarious). Just to add another negative the towels aren’t overly absorbent either.

So they have been relegated to the ‘only use if you have to pile’, and we are currently using what are beach towels for showering. My recommendation – if you spot these towels in Myer save yourself the grief and choose another brand.
