Rottnest Island Mooring

Location: Thomson Bay

Duration: 2 nights

Cost: $27.00* per person admission fee to the island + $78.00* per night for the mooring

Western Australia

We initially checked out mooring options online with moorings available in three designated areas, we chose Thomson Bay because of its proximity to island facilities. It should be noted that mooring fees vary depending on the location you choose. We booked and paid for the mooring and entry fees online.

On arrival, and once again, it was difficult to locate our assigned mooring ball. The mooring map was pretty useless, but Peter had an idea it was on the outer rim of the mooring area i.e., furthest away from the jetty and also the beach. After a couple of turns up and down mooring rows we found it. As an aside, Peter places a fender under each mooring line to limit any strain on the cross beam. If you have a catamaran it may be something worth considering.

There is a designated dinghy area up on the beach on the east side of the jetty or alternatively anywhere on the beach west of the groyne. There were up to four yachts anchored while we were there on the east side of the groyne.
