Yachties often refer to dual headsets and walkie talkies as ‘marriage savers’ and we totally support this statement. Whether its setting or trimming the sails; anchoring; mooring or docking these Sena SPH10 headsets have proven invaluable aboard Sea Goddess.
Our favourite features include:
- Great design, easy to fit and adjust to a range of head sizes!! And the microphone has a flexible arm which is really useful when you absolutely, right now have to guzzle some water from a water bottle.
- Easy to use. Helpful voice prompts let you know what’s happening, ‘Hello’ when you switch on, ‘Pairing’ when you are syncing with another handset, ‘Goodbye’ when you switch off and so on. As an aside, voice prompts are available in several languages – English, French, Spanish, Italian and German.
- Fully water resistant which is a must in a sailing environment.
- Long range, 900m, which is a bit of an overkill for what we usually use them for but now that we have them, we wouldn’t be without them. No more shouting or mis-hearing, and communication between the two of us is instantaneous. We particularly use them for slipping, docking, anchoring, and even getting the sails up in windy conditions.
- A long battery life. Ten hours of talk time and seven days of standby on a single charge. We certainly don’t need the talk time but we have at times forgotten to charge them between sails and have been pleasantly surprised that they are still going.
Additional features that we either haven’t used or haven’t had any need to use, though others may be interested in checking out include playing your favourite music, linking to GPS navigation, and calling hands free. Another feature that is worthwhile noting is that Sena’s gear will work with other gear as well, regardless of brand.
We purchased our Sena SPH10 headsets from Amazon in January this year and have used them consistently since then. We do get the occasional odd look or eye roll from other yachties, we’re okay with that, just give them a big smile. Purchase price for two headsets: $332.43 inclusive of GST and delivery, and worth every cent.
